Which Myth Has A Grip On You?
| Over the past several weeks, we’ve been talking about what it means to claw back time—not by managing your calendar more, but by noticing what’s actually driving your decisions. Those moments where everything feels urgent. Where it’s easier to just step in. Where pausing feels uncomfortable. Where responding feels necessary. Individually, they all make sense. But over time, they start to form a pattern…and that pattern shapes your time. So as we wrap up this series, here’s the question we’d leave you with: Which productivity myth has the strongest grip on you—and what would it take to let it go? For most leaders, the challenge isn’t identifying the myth. It’s what happens in the moment it shows up. That split second where something comes to you and you feel the pull to jump in. Instead of trying to overhaul anything, start there. Next time you feel that pull, pause for a second and ask: “What’s driving me to act right now?” You might notice it’s urgency. Or responsibility. Or simply the habit of being the one who handles things. That question creates a little space, and that space gives you a choice. You don’t need to do something dramatic. Just do something slightly different. Wait a few minutes before responding. Ask a question instead of giving an answer. Let someone else take the first pass. You’re still engaged…just differently. That’s what begins to loosen the grip. And that’s how leaders claw back time—by stepping out of the moments that no longer require them. |
